I love dip pens! And this piece is amazing! Did you use a reference photo? Oops, I see a mistake, right above the head of the dear on the left, there's just a patch of white, but in the reflection in the water, there's a stick rising out of its ear. The complexity of it isn't very consistent, though, since the far bank is almost all white and featureless. I would suggest just a few dark lines to imply trees. (as you did with those faint trees just above and behind the deer on the right) Awesome work!
This is taking me back to when I was a child and read a series of book written by a French lady who lived in the mid 1800s. Her name was "La Comtesse de Ségur". I have the entire collection of her books which where so beautifully illustrated with drawings using the same technique as yours. I spent a lot of time just observing the intricate details of the illustrations found throughout each book and I remember being in awe by how well the lights and the shadows were rendered.
The link below will take you to a webpage which is in French. If you don't speak French, I'm sure you will nonetheless find interest in the illustrations shown further down on the page.
Have you thought about trying this as a lino, or maybe a zinc etching? Meh, forget that, it's perfect as it is! Again, just amazing, I have to stop commenting all your awesome art... *drags fingers away from keys*
I love all your black and white pieces, and every time you put a new one up it really inspires me to improve my own inking skills. I really admire your technique. I hope I can become at least half as good as you
I really love the details on the water and the reflection of the deer... but is it just me or does the reflection look like a unicorn? Love it!
Ah! In my design class I was forced to use the fancy pens with real black ink for the first time. I also really like it too We had to do all kinds of small pictures in hatching, cross-hatching, and other mark thingys, so when I saw this I got really excited haha
This really is lovely. I especially like the reflections, how you did the bg, and you ability to keep those tiny white spaces in- they really add realistic look to the picture
Holy Macaroni and Cheese batman!!! This is amazing! I couldn't even do that in my dreams! <3 It absolutely amazes me when I see works with pen and paper, but this one... WOW. I don't think I have seen one so detailed before! Wonderful work. !!!!
